As your mortuary, we can take care of all funeral arrangements for you – from transferring the deceased to preparing the body, getting death certificates, coordinating with the cemetery, and much more.

Here's What You'll Need to Do

Follow these steps to help guide you through this difficult time

Contact Olive Tree Mortuary

Call us at 714-739-1961 or 949-445-1600 after a death has occurred. We will ask you some basic questions and make arrangements to pick up your loved one.

We will schedule a time for you to visit our office, or you can use our online form or downloadable funeral planning app if more convenient.

Gather Paperwork & Items

To complete the plans and arrangements, you will usually need:

  • Clothing for the deceased
  • Social Security number & birth date
  • City and state of birth
  • Marital status information
  • Parents' names (including mother's maiden name)
  • Education information
  • Veteran's discharge papers (if applicable)
  • Recent photograph of the deceased
  • Pre-arrangement paperwork (if applicable)
  • Cemetery lot information (if applicable)

Contact Your Clergy

If applicable, reach out to your religious leader. If you do not have a clergy person in the area, Olive Tree Mortuary can arrange one for you.

Schedule the Funeral

Decide on the time and place of the funeral or memorial service. Our team will help coordinate all the details with you.

Contact Family & Friends

Make a list of family, friends, neighbors, and business colleagues. Notify each by phone.

Having a list makes it easy for others to help you with this task.

Gather Obituary Information

Click here for Olive Tree Mortuary's obituary form. Based on the information you provide, we can write the obituary for you and submit it to the newspapers of your choice.

Select Pallbearers

Notify both the pallbearers and the funeral home. If you do not have friends or family members who can serve, Olive Tree can arrange pallbearers for you.

People with heart or back problems can be named honorary pallbearers.

Make Arrangements for Visitors

  • Arrange hospitality for visiting friends and relatives
  • Arrange for child care during the funeral, if necessary
  • Ask friends and family to help with household needs (food preparation, cleaning, etc.)

Take Care of Financial & Legal Matters

  • Locate the Will and notify the lawyer and Executor
  • Notify the deceased's insurance companies of the death
  • Notify the deceased's banks of the death
  • Check all life and casualty insurance and death benefits (Social Security, credit union, trade union, fraternal, military)
  • Check on possible income for survivors from these sources
  • Check all debts and installment payments (some may carry insurance clauses that will cancel them)
  • If there is a delay in meeting payments, consult with creditors and ask for more time
  • If the deceased was living alone, notify utility companies and landlord
  • Tell the post office where to send the mail
  • File the necessary Social Security forms
